Pinoy Singing Through the Years

Filipinos have that interesting crazed love for singing, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s with accompaniment or just plain acapella. It’s an understatement to just say that we Pinoys are karaoke¹ lovers… coz really, we are kings and queens when it comes to singing our hearts out.

For one, I think every Pinoy home has a karaoke sing-along system, a complete entertainment set or sound systems with jbl control 25 or those Videoke² or digital microphones that instantly turn a regular TV into a karaoke system.

My family was very much into singing whenever there’s an occasion. My aunt and uncles didn’t want to be limited with the songs available from the magic mic micro-chips so they usually end up going for those videoke rental services. Back in the days when there was no magic mics yet, I can still remember how we would collect a compilation of CDs with our favorites song pieces, I even used to collect song hits to use as chord guides when playing the guitar. And back in my childhood days, when there was not much of an option, my dad would play a guitar while we, his five kids would sing along to You’ll Never Walk Alone, and The Beatles songs, such as: Yesterday, Let it Be, All You Need is Love among others.

Although we didn’t exactly grew up to become professional singers. We have not outgrown singing, I don’t think we ever will. We enjoyed all kinds and genres of music during our childhood, and I guess it somehow helped us in the overall formation of our individualities.

We have evolved in so many ways now, but I guess, I’ll make it a point to instill to my daughter the same (or maybe more) love and passion that I had for music and be very supportive to her in this aspect.

  1. While I was jetlagged and my sisters, too were trying to sleep, I heard karaoke on loud speaker on the side house where the renter resides. I got out of the bedroom and asked that he turn it down as we were trying to sleep. As I walked back to the bedroom, I felt shame for betraying an entire karaoke singing nation. Haha. 🙂 #someonesgotfootnotes

    1. Hahahaha! You noticed the footnotes. Lol I haven’t figured out how exactly you did it.. can u viber me?

And oh, I think there’s a chance that there might soon be an approved law against”the videoke conduct of the Phils” since the new PH president is also against singing “My Way” out loud at the middle of the night.. For him i think it’s some sort of violation of human rights… lol

But kidding aside, I think people should learn how to be sensitive and considerate when it comes to this sometimes.
